Keynote: Opportunities for Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands in the Asian Century
Two-way trade between the Pacific Islands (including PNG) and Asia has soared since 2000. What factors are behind this trend and what does it mean for anyone doing business in the wider Pacific Island region?
BRIC and China Expert, speaker and entrepreneur, David Thomas is well known in the Asia Pacific region for his experience, credibility and passion for identifying, building and facilitating business and investment relationships between developed and emerging countries. He shares his experiences, stories and case studies with audiences, investors and business leaders around the world.
His unique experience and powerful networks have accumulated over a 30 year career in London, Hong Kong and Sydney. He managed his own financial services business in Hong Kong for 8 years (1987 – 1995) which provided unique insights and first hand experience of the changing landscape within the AsiaPacific region, particularly the opening up of China, the rise of Japan and the Asian tigers, and the emergence of India. More recently, his influence and activities have extended to Latin America and Eastern Europe driven by his interest and passion for the economic potential and growing influence of the four “BRIC countries” (Brazil, Russia, India and China).
David’s unique value lies in his ability to not only identify business trends, opportunities and challenges in the BRIC countries, but also his “hands on” experience from having worked on the ground in places like China for over 25 years. He is therefore able to illustrate and enhance his presentations by including practical examples, case studies and anecdotes from his own personal experiences from working with investors, entrepreneurs and business leaders in both emerging and developed countries.
David is the President of the Australia China SME Association and on the Advisory Board of the Emerging Markets Masters Fund, which regularly takes him to China to work with local partners and investors, as well as hosting Chinese delegations and missions of investors, SMEs and entrepreneurs in Australia.
